Whatever you need, our expert planners can help you create a small, cohesive financial strategy. A solid plan for a secure future. For you. And for your family.

Wills & Estates

If you own property, it is essential to have a will. If you don't have a will, you are leaving it to the courts to make decisions on the distribution of your assets following your death. It's important to work with an attorney to put your requests in the proper legal form to ensure that there are no questions regarding how you want your assets distributed.

Choose an executor

When creating a legal will, you will need to appoint (in writing), an executor of your estate.  Administering an estate takes great attention to detail as well as expertise in business, accounting, real estate and investments.

You may be tempted to name a close relative or friend as executor but consider appointing an expert executor who is financially responsible, has a good reputation and is subject to strict regulation.  Community Bank & Trust meets all these criteria and administers estates on a full-time basis.

At your request, the bank can serve as administrator, executor or co-executor of your estate. (One-time fee.)*

Trusts

A trust is a custom legal arrangement you create with the help of your attorney. With a trust and Community Bank & Trust as your trustee, the bank holds and manages assets of your trust.

The bank provides management for a variety of trusts. That includes living trusts, which take effect during the grantor's lifetime, and testamentary trusts, carried out after the grantor's death via language in his or her will.

In either case, Community Bank & Trust acts as trustee, administering the grantor's assets as directed by the written agreement. (Annual Fee)*

Choosing a trustee

A trustee must make impartial decisions and be willing to take financial and moral responsibility for every decision. A trustee's duties require full-time commitment. As your trustee, Community Bank & Trust will administer your trust without interruption due to a sick day or busy schedule. Our experienced trust officers administer a variety of trusts and their decisions are backed by extensive resources of our financial institution.

Agencies

A legal relationship in which "the principal" authorizes "the agent" to act on the principal's behalf. (Annual fee.)*

An agency account is a simple relationship in which you hire someone, such as Community Bank & Trust, through a written letter of instruction (agency agreement) to assume responsibility for certain specified duties regarding your investments.

You turn over to us securities, cash, real estate - any or all of these as you choose. We will manage them according to your instructions. Additional assets can be added or withdrawn at any time, and the relationship may be terminated in writing whenever you wish.

There are usually three different arrangements available:

Investment services

It's wise to periodically assess your planning to determine if it meets your future needs. One of Community Bank & Trust's professional investment representatives can help you determine, by examining your entire financial picture, whether or not your investments are on track to help you meet your current needs and long-term objectives. Community Bank & Trust investment tools include:

Community Bank & Trust offers full service brokerage service, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, competitive fixed and variable annuities.**

Self-directed IRA & Self-directed Roth IRA

A Traditional IRA offers a tax deductible and tax-deferred way to save for retirement. A Roth IRA offers a tax-free way to save. Community Bank & Trust serves as the account custodian but the customer chooses how to invest.

Options include Community Bank & Trust Certificates of Deposit or savings accounts, stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Principal Preservation, Target Retirement Preset Lifestyle Portfolios allow for directed investment strategy.

Community Bank & Trust IRA

A Community Bank & Trust IRA can be either a Traditional or Roth. A traditional IRA offers a tax-deductible way to save for retirement but if you withdraw funds prior to retirement, you pay penalties. A maximum annual contribution limit may apply.*

A Roth IRA has the same maximum contribution as a Traditional IRA but is not tax-deductible. It offers flexibility that a Traditional IRA does not. Without penalty, you can withdraw from the Roth account to pay educational expenses. You can also bequeath a Roth account and your beneficiary can withdraw money without paying taxes. (Annual fee may apply.)*

Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees (SIMPLE)

A nice retirement savings option for small companies (fewer than 100 employees) or self-employed, SIMPLEs are attractive because they avoid some of the administrative and legal costs of plans like 401(k)s. (Annual fee.)*

Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) Plan

A SEP is a qualified employer-sponsored pension plan under which an employer contributes to an individual retirement account or individual retirement annuity for each participating employee. The employee owns the account. Self-employed people may establish SEP plans as well.
